The Importance of Teen Orthodontics
Treating the teeth and bite while the bones are still developing can enable a shorter treatment period that eliminates the need for future or more severe treatment! When we begin treatment while the jaws and teeth are still developing, the process can be more efficient and more comfortable for your teen.
Misaligned bites (overbite, underbite, open bite, cross bite, midline) can cause a number of difficult problems, including TMJ pain, difficulty chewing food properly, mouth-breathing and sleep disorders (especially sleep apnea).
Misaligned teeth are also difficult to brush, because the surfaces of some teeth may overlap other teeth if crowding is present. When the teeth can’t be cleaned properly, bacteria can start to build up, causing the teeth to turn yellow, bad breath, gum disease or tooth decay.
